Jessie Marie Kavanaugh a�" Brown
Age 94 of Coal City, passed away Wednesday March 17, 2010 at her home.
Born December 11, 1915 in Coal City, Jessie was a daughter of the late John and Margaret Cuthbertson-Edgar. She was raised and educated in Coal City and was a graduate of Coal City High School with the Class of 1930. On January 5, 1939, Jessie married Leroy Kavanaugh in Assumption Catholic Church and together they resided in Kinsman, Wilmington and Cornell, prior to returning to Coal City in 1980. Leroy preceded Jessie in 1983. On January 9, 1988, Jessie married Paul Brown in Assumption Catholic Church and he preceded her in 2000. A homemaker all of her life, Jessie also worked over the years at Hornsby's in Morris, Woolworth in Pontiac and at Saint James Hospital in Pontiac. She was a member of Coal City United Methodist Church and the Area 1 Club. Jessie was known for her love of music, bible study and poetry, and truly enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren.
Survivors include four children: Marian (Philip) Cashmer of Winter Haven, Florida, Judith (George) Conro of Lemon Grove, California, June (Douglas) Cesar of Jamul, California and William (Patricia) Kavanaugh of Decatur; 8 grandchildren: Christine (Matthew) Smith, Catherine (Jeffrey) Pederson, Shawn (Jennifer) Driscoll, Angela (David) Corrie, Matthew (Debra) Conro, Pamela Conro, Stacey (Forrest) Edwards and Kimberly (Brian) Treacy and (15) great grandchildren: Ashley, Joshua Calandria, Melinda, Matty, Wyatt, Cookie, Maverick, Bronson, Delaney, Cooper, Finnian, Nancy Lynn, Devon, Sarah and Joshua Conro, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Leroy Kavanaugh, second husband Paul Brown, one son James Kavanaugh, one grandson Ryan Kavanaugh, one stepdaughter Kathleen Brown, three sisters and five brothers.
Visitation will be held on Friday March 19, 2010 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Jessie will then lie in state Saturday March 20th at the Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 East McArdle Road, from 9:00AM until time of service 10:00AM. Pastor Tom Logsdon will officiate and burial will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Jessie's memory to the Coal City United Methodist Church Building Fund or to a Humane Society or charity of the donor's choosing.
