Janice Sorensen-Cushing
Age 60 of Gardner and formerly Mazon, passed away Tuesday evening, October 13, 2015 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Born June 25, 1955 in Morris, Janice is a daughter of Leah (Male) Christensen of Gardner and the late Russell Sorensen. She was raised and educated in Gardner and went on to earn her associates degree. She worked for Rockwell and Wescom before gaining employment with the US Postal Service, where she retired as a rural carrier. Janice was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Gardner. She enjoyed sewing, crosswords, gardening and softball, and took pleasure in the outdoors, star gazing and meteor festivals.
Survivors include her mother Leah Christensen of Gardner; daughter Renee Countryman of Howe, Texas; grandson Riley Countryman; step-son Jimmy (Jessica) Cushing of Bolingbrook; brothers and sisters: Randy (Mary) Sorensen of Plattville, Lonnie (Sheila) Sorensen of Dwight, Gail (Rick) Decker of Braceville, Richard "Rusty" (Barb) Sorensen of South Wilmington, Jeff Sorensen of Gardner, Darren (Dawn) Sorensen of Morris and Holly (Alan) Nielsen of Dwight; four step-sisters: Kathleen, Sandy, Lynn and Bobbi; brothers and sisters-in-law: Joanne (Don) McLuckie of Aurora, Carol (Ed) Walker and Mary (Denny) Punke, both of Mazon, John (Karen) Cushing of Glen Carbon and Janice Feltenz of Mazon, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her father; husbands: Randy Countryman and James Cushing; two brothers: Duane "Dewey" Sorensen and one in infancy; sister Charlene Sorensen and step-father Robert Christensen.
A celebration of Janice's life will be held Friday, October 23rd at Rury's Tap, 365 Lake Street in South Wilmington, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
She will be laid to rest with her late husband Jim in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington at a later date.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Janice's memory to Hines VA Hospital - Fisher House Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choosing.
