Janet J. Cooper

Age 71 of Wilmington, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 9, 2017 at her home surrounded by family.

Born November 13, 1945 in Joliet, Illinois, Janet Jessie was a daughter of Roy and Eva (Oster) Cupples. She was raised and educated in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1963. On March 14, 1964, Janet married Fred Cooper in Grace Lutheran Church in Wilmington, where she remained to be a member.

Janet enjoyed fishing, camping and playing cards. She took pleasure in traveling domestically, and loved visiting the casinos.

Survivors include her husband Fred; two daughters: Lesa Hawes and Jody Godsey both of Wilmington; three grandchildren: Brittany Godsey of Plainfield and Lindsey Godsey and Kelsey Hawes, both of Wilmington; two brothers and two sisters: Jean (the late Ed) Petersen of Wilmington, Sharon (the late John) Cottingham of Streator, Dale (the late Barb) Cupples of Piper City and Don (Rosemary) Cupples of Wilmington; one half-sister Carol Mardis of Fayette, Alabama; brothers and sisters-in-law: Gary (Sharon) Cooper of Fairbury, Dale (the late Jan) Sanders of Plainfield, Cindy (the late Burl) Cooper of Shorewood, Richard (Barb) Cooper of Bloomington and Charlene Cooper of Chenoa, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved companion Potter.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters: Phyllis Casey and Marilyn Proffit.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 1:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Pastor David Vidler will officiate and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
