James George Wendell

Age 96 of Coal City, passed away Tuesday morning November 10, 2009 at Heritage Manor in Dwight.

Born April 28, 1913 in Coal City, James was a son of the late Frederick and Jennie Cravello-Wendell. He was raised and educated in Coal City and was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II, throughout the European Theater of Operations. On September 19, 1936 James married Gemma Muzzarelli in South Wilmington and she preceded him in death. James worked at the Atlas Papermill in Coal City for over 40 years and was a member of the VFW. In his free time James was known to enjoy fishing and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters: Charlotte Wharrie of Coal City and Sandra (Leon) Residori of Morris; five grandchildren: Steven M. (Becky) Wharrie of Frankfort, Brian (Anne) Residori of Lebanon, Ohio, Dan (Sue) Residori of Shorewood, Brad (Michelle) Residori of Friendswood, Texas and Janine (John) Michalak of Coal City; (11) great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: Bruno (Connie) Muzzarelli and Joseph Muzzarelli, both of Coal City; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy (the late Leo) Muzzarelli of Gardner and Marge (the late Frank Muzzarelli) Houck of Mazon and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gemma on May 23, 1978, grandson Mark Wharrie on February 29, 2008; (11) brothers and sisters: August, Fred, William, Henry, Leroy, Marie, Genevieve, Dorothy and Irene. And Marie and Elmer in infancy.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Saturday November 14, 2009 from 9:00AM until time of funeral service 11:00AM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Reverend Ronald Hart will officiate and burial will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in James memory to his family for distribution to local charities of their choosing.
