James C. Maland

Age 93 of Coal City, passed away Thursday evening April 12, 2007 at Heritage Manor in Dwight.

Born December 20, 1913 in Morris, James was a son of the late Peter and Mary (Vota) Maland. On December 13, 1941 James married Betty Davito in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City and together they lived their entire married life in Coal City. James was employed by Granerts Clothing prior to gaining employment with A.P. Green Company, where he worked for nearly 30 years before retiring. James was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and his hobbies included fishing, hunting and woodworking.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Betty; three daughters: Carol (Don) Young of Joliet, Diane (Larry) Smith of Gardner and Judith (Anthony) Morgese of Atlanta, Georgia. Four grandchildren: Anmaree (Jose) Mora of Wheaton, Jason (Andrea) Smith of Coal City, Craig (Julie) Young of Huntley and Marc (Tracie) Young of Cherry Valley, Illinois. Seven great grandchildren: Arianna Mora, Kaitlin Mora, Paityn Smith, Keegan Smith, Ava Smith, Ella Young and Sophie Young. One sister Marian Knudtson of Gardner and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday April 21, 2007 at 11:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City with Rev. Mike Pennock officiating. The family will then receive friends immediately following the services in the Berst Center where a funeral luncheon will be served.

Inurnment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Braidwood at a later date.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in James' memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
