Age 75, of Braceville, Illinois, died on Friday, March 14, 2025 at home.
Born March 21, 1949, in Joliet, Illinois, James Glenn, known as Jim, was the third son of George and Mary (Poppleton) Harvey. Jim was raised and educated in Braceville. He graduated from Gardner-South Wilmington High School in 1967 and was drafted into the United States military, serving as a Military Policeman with the Army.
A hard-working man, Jim dedicated himself to his work as a welder and a pipefitter, retiring from Durkee Foods following 30 years of service.
A fan of classic western films and television shows, Jim also had a deep love for NASCAR and his many collections. He enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. Jim’s greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his two children: Jim (Courtney) Harvey and Daniel (Jenny) Harvey; five grandchildren: Ashton, Addison, James, Caroline, and Benjamin; three brothers George (Nellie) Harvey, Jack (Denise) Harvey and Mike Harvey; four nieces: Melissa, Michelle, Mindy, and Denise; two nephews: Johnny and Joey; and cousins: Maureen and Kay Ann; as well as his close friend Phil Bayta.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his longtime partner Sharon Breen; one brother and sister-in-law: Donny and Jackie Harvey; and two nephews: Donald Harvey and Billy Harvey.
Per his wishes, cremations rights have been accorded.
The family will receive friends at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway Street, Coal City, Illinois on Thursday, March 27, 2025 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. A celebration of life will follow at the funeral home on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
Private interment with full military honors will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Jim’s memory to; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
