James G. Gavros
Age 65 of Manteno, passed away Monday September 17, 2012 at his home.
Born December 23, 1946 in Belmar, New Jersey, Jim is the son of the late Theodore and Jean Petillo-Gavros. He was raised and educated in Chicago and was a veteran of the United States Army. Jim honorably served during Vietnam and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He worked as a supervisor at Exxon Mobil in Channahon for 28 years, and on July 14, 2003, Jim married Gail Hall in Ottawa. He attended Manteno Church of the Nazarene and was a member of Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Jim greatly enjoyed playing golf and watching sports on T.V. He also could often be found working in the yard and traveling when the opportunity arose. Jim will be remembered for cherishing the time spent with his sons and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Gail Hall-Gavros; three children: Anthony Gavros of Hoffman Estates, Matthew Gavros of Lake Bluff and Bryan Gavros of Oswego; step-son Greg (Marissa) Hall of Wilmington; two grandchildren: Ben and Lucy Hall; brother Don (Jean) Gavros of Elk Grove Village; sister Grace (Don) Banach of Schaumburg; mother-in-law: Ida Hall of Wilmington; brothers and sisters-in-law: Fred (Robin) Hall of Kankakee and Amy (Tim) Such of Somonauk; eight nieces and four nephews: Adrienne, Nicole, Dana, Nina, Jessica, Samantha, Madelyn, Lorelai, Isaac Gavros, Isaac Such, Ryan and Zachary.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Theodore and Jean Gavros and father-in-law: Fred Hall, Sr.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Saturday September 22, 2012 from 2:00PM until time of funeral service 6:00PM at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Pastor Jack McCormick from Manteno Church of the Nazarene will officiate.
Burial with full military honors will follow Monday afternoon in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Jim's memory to The Disabled Veterans or Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
