James Bernard Fleming
Age 81 of Morris and formerly Goose Lake, passed away Tuesday October 28, 2008 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Born August 19, 1927 in Lockport, James was a son of the late David and Catherine Dawson-Fleming. He was raised and educated in Lockport and was a graduate of Lockport Township High School with the graduating Class of 1945. Following High School, James entered into the United States Navy where he sailed out of San Diego and served on the USS Abercrombie. On September 04, 1948 James married Joannet Schoob in St. Raymonds Catholic Church in Joliet and together they resided in Plainfield prior to moving to Goose Lake and most recently Morris. James worked as a Real Estate Appraiser and Agent with Liberty Realty and the Hensel Agency prior to gaining employment with Joliet Federal Savings/Amerifed, from where he retired. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City and a former member of the Joliet Blackhawk Barber Shop Chorus and the Will County Farm Bureau Prime Timers. James was a volunteer fireman for Northwest Homer Fire Department, Former Plainfield Band Booster, where he served as President, former Boy Scout Leader for Troop 97 in Plainfield and former Plainfield PTA member, who was honored as being Volunteer of the Year. In his free time James truly loved music and singing in the church choir. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading and attending all of the parades and band concerts that his children and grandchildren participated.
Survivors include his loving wife Joannet; three children: Regina (Walter) Stephens of Joliet, J. Edward (Deborah) Fleming of Plainfield and John (Karin) Fleming of Altenglan-Patersbach, Germany; six grandchildren: Kathryn J. Stephens of Carbondale, Illinois, Cpl. Thomas D. (Nerie) Stephens of Donduchong, South Korea, Colleen E. Stephens of Joliet, John J. (Gina) Fleming of Minooka, Christopher D. Fleming of Plainfield and James G. Fleming of Germany; one great grandson Dawson N. Stephens of Donduchong, South Korea; one brother-in-law John W. (Katherine) Schoob of Wisconsin; one sister-in-law Jacqueline (Steven) Andros of Arizona and one special niece Judith Donnelly-Findlay of Waterman, Illinois, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Katherine (Raymond) Donnelly and Rita (Mandus) Girard and two brothers: Edward Fleming and Robert (Edna) Fleming.
Visitation will be held on Sunday November 02, 2008 between the hours of 3:00PM and 6:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City.
Funeral services will follow on Monday November 3rd at 11:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Ron Hart officiating.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Joliet.
