Age 69 of Wilmington, passed away Saturday August 15, 2009 at his home.

Born January 17, 1940 in Danville, IL, Jack was a son of the late Delbert W. and Myrtle M. Ritter-Mikel. On January 24, 1963 Jack married Alyce Sue Kahler in Joliet and together they have resided in the Wilmington area. Jack was a member of Local 150 Operating Engineers for 35 years, member of Island City Baptist Church and a member of the Wilmington Moose Lodge. Jack was known for his love of hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, outdoor activities and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Alyce Sue; one daughter Shaun Mikel of Kankakee; four grandchildren: Bobby, Brett, Joey and Blake; brothers and sisters: Wayne (the late Mary) Mikel, Jimmy (Doris) Mikel, Patricia Wallace, Caroline (the late Cappy) Frost, Nora Waldron, Dora (Paul) Ballard and Loretta (Ronnie) Rhodes; his mother-in-law Dorothy Kahler and numerous niece, nephews and cousins, as well as special friends: Charlie Decker and Fred Brunner.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Jerry and Leonard and his father-in-law Hervey Kahler.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 19, 2009 between the hours of 4-7PM and Thursday August 20th from 9AM until time of funeral service 10AM at Reeves Funeral Home, 219 North Joliet Street (two blocks North of Illinois Route 53 / Baltimore Street) in Wilmington. Pastor Ron Taylor from Island City Baptist Church will officiate and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Jack's memory to Island City Baptist Church, Joliet Area Community Hospice, Kuzma Care Cottage or by "paying forward" and doing something nice for someone.
