Age 85, passed away October 14, 2010 at the Joliet Community Hospice Home.

Born January 2, 1925 in Harvey, Jack was a son of the late Philos, Sr. and Marguerite (DeFlyer) Marlowe. He was raised and educated in Harvey and during his life time lived in Homewood, Hazelcrest, Harvey, and most recently Richton Park. On November 11, 1950, Jack married Shirley Hurtt. He served his country in the United States Army Air Force during WWII as an airplane electrical instrument repairman, received numerous medals and was witness to Hiroshima and the Japanese surrender. Jack was a 35 year employee and served as general manager of Bauer Buick in Harvey until 1980, and later gained employment as a supervisor with the John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago until his retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Homewood and the EEA (Experimental Aircraft Association). Jack enjoyed automobiles, auto history and aircraft of which he still held his pilot license to fly.

Survivors include his wife Shirley: four children: Christopher (Sue) Marlowe of New Lenox, Patricia (James) McGehee of Minooka, John Marlowe of Richton Park and Daniel (Carolyn) Marlowe of New Lenox; seven grandchildren: Alison (Jed) Barker, Lindsey and Jayme McGehee and Jeffrey, Michelle, Matthew and Joseph Marlowe; two great grandchildren: Sadie and James Barker; six sisters: Betty Piper of Glen Ellyn, Marge Johnson of Nebraska, Sally Thele of Glen Ellyn, Ruth (Charles) Norton of Munster, Indiana, Lucille Hofbauer of Texas and Gloria Burback of Orland Park; four brothers-in-law: Richard (Marsha), Thomas, Terrance (Marcia), and Steven Hurtt all of Indiana; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his brother Robert Marlowe and sister Joyce Vukelic.

The family will receive friends on Monday October 18, 2010 at Saint Jude Catholic Church, 241 W. Second Avenue in New Lenox from 10:00AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial 11:00AM. Reverend Don Bates will officiate and interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Jack's memory to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, Illinois 60431.
