Iva Jean Voelcker, age 93, passed away peacefully in the arms of Jesus on April 20, 2023 surrounded by loving family at Park Pointe Healthcare in Morris, Illinois.
Born on January 22, 1930 in Mason, Illinois and married to Joseph Fancher in 1947, Iva Jean was known for her kind heart, dedication to her family and friends, willingness to help others, and faithfulness to her religious beliefs. She had a great sense of humor that brought joy to many and her caring nature made her a beloved member of the community.
Iva Jean spent many years as the Society Editor of the MORRIS HERALD-NEWS and continued as a proofreader until her retirement in 2013. She spoke highly of her colleagues and often expressed how much she enjoyed the friendships and bonds formed while working at the newspaper.
Many will remember her as one who expressed her faith through playing the piano and singing with her lovely soprano voice. She enjoyed travel, especially with her late husband George Voelcker, whom she married in 1977. You might find her on a gondola ride in Venice, Italy or traveling to renowned places in the United States. At another time, you might find her with friends exploring a mosque in Istanbul or taking a train tour across Canada. When at home, she was kept busy participating in many social events and church functions. She loved life and put her whole heart into everything she did!
Iva Jean is survived by her daughters Lois Elaine Borg (Toby) of Naples, Florida, Jo Ellen Holden of San Antonio, Texas, Kathy Peters of Morris, Illinois, Denise Fancher of Southport, North Carolina, and her step-son, Greg Voelcker of San Jose, California. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Ruth Zumbahlen of Iola, Illinois and Marilyn Edmond of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. Also she leaves behind eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren, and one more on the way in June.
A Memorial Service will be held at The First Christian Church in Morris, Illinois on Friday, May 19, 2023. Visitation will begin at 9:00 followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00. To conclude the service, a catered lunch will be offered in the banquet hall of the church.
