Inola Irene Phipps (Nee Sittingdown)
Age 81 of Oakley, Illinois, passed away Monday October 1, 2007 at Heritage Manor in Mt. Zion, Illinois.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Inola was a daughter of the late James Nathan and Jasmine Mullins-Sittingdown. She was raised and educated in Hoisington, Kansas and graduated from Hoisington High School. Inola attended Kansas City Secretarial School and on June 22, 1946 she married John H. Phipps in Olathe, Kansas. Together they lived in Kansas City, Missouri and Decatur, Illinois prior to moving to Oakley, Illinois. Inola was a homemaker and in her free time she enjoyed walking, gardening and flowers, especially her lilacs. She was proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband John; children: Ellen Peredetto of Morris, Illinois, Frank (Mary) Phipps of Dover, Pennsylvania, John (Debbie) Phipps of Linden, Indiana, Phil (Cathy) Phipps of Omaha, Nebraska, Kathy (Mike) Earles of Cerro Gordo, Illinois, Laura (Ron) Maier of Decatur, Illinois and Colleen (David) Cochran of Colorado Springs, Colorado; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; four brothers: Ralph Sittingdown of Glendale, California, Steve Sittingdown of St. Louis, Missouri, Milton Sittingdown of Ellenwood, Kansas and Quincy Sittingdown of Junction City, Kansas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Inola was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Bernice Lunsford of Mulberry, Arkansas and Lena Gilchrist of McAllister, Oklahoma; three brothers: Lester Sittingdown and Richard Sittingdown, both of Fort Lupton, Colorado and John Sittingdown of Perryton, Texas.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 2, 2007 between the hours of 6:00PM and 8:00PM at the First Freewill Baptist Church, 2709 N. 27th Avenue in Decatur. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday October 3rd at 10:00AM in the church with Brethren Pastor Terry Leach officiating.
Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park Cemetery in Harristown, Illinois.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Inola's memory to the Parkinson's Foundation.
