Howard M. Schennum

Age 95 of Coal City, passed away Thursday April 09, 2009 at Colonial Hall Rehabilitation Center in Princeton, Illinois.

Born May 06, 1913 in Chicago, Howard was a son of the late Maurice and Ragna "Peggy" Thorson-Schennum. He was raised and educated in Coal City and was a graduate of Coal City High School. On April 27, 1940 Howard married Dorothy Johnson in Morris, and together they resided their entire married life in Coal City. Howard worked as a salesman for Curtiss Candy Company, from where he retired in 1975. He was a member of the Coal City United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years: Dorothy; two sons: Maurice (Carol) Schennum of Princeton and Gary (Marion) Schennum of Mountain View, California; four grandchildren: Scott (Janet) Schennum of Princeton, Steve (Angie) Schennum of Plainfield, Michael Schennum of Phoenix, Arizona and Karen Schennum of New York, New York; four great grandchildren: Hayden, Isaac, Sam and Matthew Schennum; one brother-in-law Harold Johnson of Gardner and one sister-in-law Phyllis Phillips of Coal City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Russell.

Visitation will be held on Monday April 13, 2009 from 9:00AM until time of funeral service 11:00AM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Dr. Thomas Logsdon from the Coal City United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Howard's memory to the Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 East McArdle Road, Coal City, Illinois 60416 or to a charity of the donor's choosing.
