Age 91 of Elwood, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 10, 2013 at home with his loving wife by his side.

Born March 18, 1921 in Joliet, Howard was a son of the late Rueben H. and Pearl Taylor-Cardwell. He was raised and educated in Joliet, and on July 19, 1942, Howard married Ann Sceniak in Joliet. On December 4, 1942 Howard was inducted into the United States Army and served in the Artillery 384th F.A.B.N 103rd Division throughout France, Germany and Austria during WWII. Upon his return from honorably serving his country, Howard and Ann made their home in Lockport from 1949-1969, Joliet from 1969-1988 and most recently Elwood. As a lifetime teamster, Howard was employed as a driver working for Blue Bird Bus Line, Seneca Petro, Transport Service of Joliet, and Refiners Transport of Alsip. He was a former member of St. Mary Assumption Catholic Church in Joliet, The 300 Club, and Cantigny Post #367. Howard was an avid car enthusiast and greatly enjoyed attending and participating in car shows.

Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years Ann; one sister: Nancy (James) Watkins; brothers and sisters-in-law: Irene Eaton, Mary Gaspar and Ruth Cardwell, and numerous nieces and nephews. Howard was also dearest Godfather to Tina (Dale Torkel) Giglietti and a longtime friend of forty-five years to Richard (Joy) Degen.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Sylvia, Mae and Phylis, and four brothers: George, Robert, Gilbert and Russell.

Per Howard's request, cremation rites have been accorded. A private family inurnment with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
