Helen M. McMurtry

Age 82 of New Lenox, passed away Friday morning, January 13, 2017.

Born November 17, 1934 in Sparta, Illinois, Helen Marie was a daughter of the late Earl and Rebecca (Fulton) McMurtry. She was raised in Sparta and went on to earn her Master's degree in Nursing and a degree in Chaplaincy. Helen owned and operated the Olive Branch Assisted Living in Casa Grande, Arizona. Aside from being a life-long Registered Nurse, Helen was the administrator for the Barnes Hospital School of Nursing in St Louis.  She was a member of Marley Community Church and belonged to the Nurses Christian Fellowship (NCF). She enjoyed her garden and will be remembered for her love of her nieces and nephews, whom she cherished and spoiled.

Survivors include her brother: William D. (Barbara Merkel) McMurtry of Wilmington; sister: Betty (Dave) Meyerhoff of Sparta, Illinois, and nieces and nephews: Mark (Diane) Meyerhoff, David (Lisa) McMurtry, Barb (Jim) Stellwagen, Don McMurtry, Joe (Robin) McMurtry, Mary (Lynn) Wilcox, numerous great nieces and nephews, as well as her faithful friend and caregiver Dolores Bradford.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Robert, and sister-in-law Dorris (Nehrt) McMurtry.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Reverend Allan Holder from Marley Community Church will officiate.

Burial will follow in Wesley Cemetery.
