Helen Marie Jackson

Age 91 of Wilmington, passed away Monday evening, June 13, 2016 at Aperion Care Center in Wilmington.

Born March 1, 1925 in Joliet, Helen Marie was a daughter of the late Jerry George and Mary Ellen (Mills) Johnson. She was raised and educated in Wilmington and on November 16, 1947, Helen married Melvin Jackson. She was a member of Ritchey United Methodist Church, The Wesley Community Club, where she served as president, and a lifelong member of the Will County Farm Bureau Prime Timers. Helen also volunteered at Embassy Care Center in Wilmington, and was named Volunteer of the Year. She took pleasure in playing cards, dining out and reading. Helen cherished her time with her family and loved doing arts and crafts with her grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters: Anna (Ralph) Sims and Mary Melvin, both of Wilmington; six grandchildren: Brian (Lalar) Melvin, Randy, Jr. (Laurie) Melvin, Tina Dybas, Sandy (John) Cary and Carley (Kris) Neese, all of Wilmington and Susan (William) Widlacki of Braidwood; (12) great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and her best friend: Ann Bishop of Manhattan.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Melvin; sister: Elizabeth Wilber; grandson: William Melvin, and son-in-law: Randall Melvin, Sr.

Visitation and video tribute will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 11:00 a.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Bob Aiken will officiate and burial will follow in Wesley Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Randy Melvin, Brian Melvin, Zack Melvin, Kris Neese, Billy Widlacki and Mike Wilber.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Helen’s memory to: Joliet Area Community Hospice.
