Hazel E. Drnec
Age 104 of Coal City, passed away Thursday April 25, 2013, at Heritage Health in Dwight.
Born December 18, 1908 in Jonesboro, Illinois Hazel was a daughter of the late Henry and Hattie Carlock-Knupp. She was raised and educated in Zeigler, Illinois. On July 20, 1929 Hazel married James Drnec in Zeigler, and together they moved to Coal City in 1941. Hazel worked as a seamstress at the local garment factories until her retirement, and also managed Lake Will with her husband for several years. She was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church where she was quite active and involved. Hazel enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting, and often sewed locally for the community.
Survivors include two daughters: Ruth Everts of Diamond, and Jane (Frank) Anselmo of Coal City; five grandchildren: Nanci (Tom) Weideman of Hoover, Alabama, Paul (Nancy) Everts of Channahon, Janice (Jim) Corpus of Peoria, Ellen (Mike) Smith of London Mills, Illinois, Betsy (Bill) Stahler of Coal City; twelve great-grandchildren: Cara (Ara) Dombourian, Lynn Weideman, Bradley Weideman, Christa Everts, Jeffrey Everts, Audrey Everts, Daniel (Stefani) Corpus, Keith Corpus, Matthew (Erin) Smith, Sarah Smith, Mary Stahler, and Jim Stahler; five great great-grandchildren: Lily Dombourian, Cecilia Smith, Emma Dombouriam, Grayson Corpus and Charlotte Smith, with another on the way; one sister-in-law Doris Knupp of Arkansas, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband James; Parents: Henry and Hattie Knupp; one sister Hester Bennett; three brothers: George Knupp, Irvin Knupp, and Russell Knupp, and her son-in-law Paul Everts.
Cremation rites have been accorded per the wishes of Hazel.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday May 1, 2013 from 9:00AM until time of memorial service11:00AM at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 80 North Garfield Street (at First Street) in Coal City. Pastor Nate Manzo will officiate, and a private family inurnment will follow in Bohemian National Cemetery, Braidwood.
