"Lupe"
Age 86 of Coal City, passed away Wednesday March 16, 2011 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Born January 28, 1925 in Mexico, Lupe was a son of the late Juan Pablo and Juana Balderas-Salazar. He was raised and educated in Mexico and on March 9, 1957 married Helen G. Gonzales in Streator. Lupe was a member of the Laborers Union Local #75, from where he retired and belonged to Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City where he served as an usher. Lupe enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling, music and dancing. He can also be remembered for his love of animals, especially horses, and a good cup of coffee.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years: Helen; six children: Mary (Tim) Suste of Crest Hill, Juan Carlos (Linor) Salazar of Texas, Antonio (Tammy) Salazar and Guadalupe A. (Leaha) Salazar, both of Coal City, Rose Mary Salazar of Chicago and Dahlia (Larry) O'Bryan of California; four grandchildren: Toni Salazar, Amanda Salazar and Maria Salazar, all of Coal City and Mikheal Boswell of Texas; four brothers: Pascual (Hortensia) Salazar, Juan (Victoria) Salazar, Florentino (Ramona) Salazar and Fidel (Graciela) Salazar; one sister: Hortensia Salazar; two brothers-in-law: Frank Gonzales and Pedro (Myra) Gonsalez and one sister-in-law Mary Gallegos, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Lupe was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and sisters.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Friday March 18, 2011 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Saturday March 19th at 9:30AM in Assumption of the BVM Roman Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington and pallbearers will be: Juan Carlos Salazar, Antonio Salazar, Guadalupe A. Salazar, Tim Suste, Israel Corona and Tim McKinney.
Following the committal services a funeral luncheon provided by the Martha's of Assumption Parish will be held at the Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 McArdle Road in Coal City.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Lupe's memory to a charity of the donor's choosing.
