Age 75 of Wilmington, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 15, 2025 at OSF St. Clare Medical Center in Princeton, Illinois.
Born on June 24, 1949, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Greg was a son of George Harrison and Janet (Dike) Fisher. He spent his early years in Ivanhoe, Minnesota, before moving with his family to Fort Madison, Iowa, in 1963. There, Greg graduated from Aquinas High School.
In 1980, Greg relocated to Wilmington, Illinois, where he planted lasting roots. Known for his culinary skills, he initially worked as a chef before joining the family business, The Free Press Newspapers, where he skillfully managed the information technology department. Greg’s passion for technology led him to attend the DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, and he remained a trusted resource for staying ahead in the ever-evolving tech world.
Greg’s love of cooking was a defining feature of his life. He generously shared his talents with various organizations, finding joy in serving others through his culinary expertise. In addition to his love for food, Greg delighted in the timeless charm of movies.
Survivors include his siblings: Dr. Marc (Kris) Fisher of Manteno, Alan (Suzanne) Fisher of St. Charles, Eric (Janet) Fisher of Wilmington, Jeffrey (Mary Theresa) Fisher of Coal City, Joy Africano of Buffalo, New York, Janet Sue (Thomas) Schatz of Lemont and Beth (James) Brace of Westmont; (21) nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at Saint Rose Catholic Church, 604 S. Kankakee Street in Wilmington on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Sebastian Gargol presiding.
Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Wilmington, where Greg will be laid to rest with his parents.
