Age 82 of Wilmington, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois.
Born December 8, 1942 in Boone, Iowa, Gloria Jean was the daughter of Dwain and Grace (Madden) Sundine. She was raised in Boone until her high school years when her family moved to Wilmington, where she attended Wilmington High School. Gloria worked at Uniroyal from 1967 to 1970, then shifted her focus to raising her children. In 1987, she felt the desire to pursue a career in nursing, and attended Joliet Junior College to complete training as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Gloria then spent the next eleven years working in various nursing homes, using her natural abilities as a caretaker to care for their residents.
She then retired in 2000 to embrace the role of Grandma. Gloria was very active in her grandchildren's lives, acting like a second mother. She was always there to lend a hand and make sure that nothing slipped through the cracks. Gloria was a wonderful cook and baker who enjoyed sharing her talents with her family, particularly her caramel corn, Pronto Pups, pumpkin rolls, and homemade gravy. She also loved the holidays and would make little stockings to put sweet treats in for her grandchildren's classmates during Christmas time. Gloria took pleasure in a good movie and trying her luck with scratch off Lotto tickets. She was a natural caretaker who focused her life on taking care of others, whether it was professionally or personally, and countless people benefited from her love and warmth.
