Gladys Onedia Douglass
Age 79 of Wilmington, Illinois and Somerville, Tennessee, passed away Saturday evening August 2, 2014 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, following a courageous battle with ALS.
Born March 13, 1935 in Somerville, Gladys was a daughter of the late Eli Franklin and Carles Mary (Carnathan) Cook. She was raised and educated in Somerville and on June 22, 1952, Gladys married Charles Douglass in Mississippi. She was a member of the Oakland Church of Christ in Tennessee and the Wilmington Church of Christ in Illinois. Gladys enjoyed baking, cooking and sewing, and will be remembered for always being there for everybody. She cherished time spent with her family.
Survivors include her two children: Trish Hall and Charlie (Debbie) Douglass, both of Wilmington; five grandchildren: Cheryl (Mike) Larson, Nancy Hall and Doug Hall, all of Wilmington, Nathanial (Kim) Douglass of Dallas, Texas and Jeffrey Douglass (Stephanie Price) of Phoenix, Arizona; four great grandchildren: Katie Hall, Kody Patterson, Destiny Hall and Kaleb Patterson; one brother Larry Joe (Edna) Cook and one aunt Cleo McNabb, both of Somerville, and brothers and sisters-in-law: Myrna (J.T.) Minor of Moscow, Tennessee, Nona Ann Cook of Macon, Tennessee and Joyce (Joe) Wilburn and Herron Douglass, both of Somerville, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles; son-in-law Bob Hall; brothers: Ernest (Dixie) Cook and Lealton Cook, and sisters: Elaine (Claude) Bryant, Dessie (Kenny) German, Vernell (John) Oates, Marie (Azel) Martin and one sister in infancy.
Visitation and video tribute will be held on Tuesday August 5, 2014 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington.
Visitation and services will also follow in Somerville, Tennessee, where Gladys will be laid to rest with her husband Charles at Hood Cemetery.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Gladys' memory to The ALS Association, 1275 K Street NW - Suite 250 - Washington, DC 20005
