"John"

Age 71 of Coal City, passed away Monday morning January 9, 2012 at Morris Hospital.

Born March 14, 1940 in Palermo, Sicily, John was a son of the late Michele and Francesca Maniscalco-Intravaia. He was raised in Palermo, served in the Italian Army and on January 27, 1964, married Rosaria "Sarina" Cannizzaro. Together John and Sarina moved to the United States in 1967, first settling in Rochelle, Illinois. It was then in October of 1980 that they moved to Coal City, where they opened and operated Little Maria's Restaurant. John was member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City and the Coal City Area Club. John truly enjoyed woodworking, gardening and cooking. He will also be remembered as cherishing the time spent with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters: Francesca (Willie) Jones of LaPlace, Louisiana and Maria (Thomas) Heniff of Shorewood; one son Vincenzo (Brandi) Intravaia of Coal City; six grandchildren: Vanessa, Carmela, Sicilia, Thomas, Giovanni and Gabriel, and three sisters: Maria Intravaia and Vita Lucchese, both of Rockford and Sylvana Alfano of Wisconsin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sarina on December 29, 2003; one son Michele on August 3, 1979 and three brothers: Michele, Girolamo and Francesco.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 11, 2012 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow on Thursday January 12th at 9:30AM in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating. Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, where John will be laid to rest with his wife and son.

Pallbearers will be: Frank Manzella, Vince Manzella, Thomas Heniff, William Black, Dave Morrison and Jason Shelton.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in John's memory to his family for their distribution.
