Geraldine D. Nars
Age 84 of Goose Lake, passed away peacefully Monday evening, December 24, 2012 at Morris Hospital.
Born January 17, 1928 in Chicago, Geraldine was a daughter of the late Albert and Sally DePatie. She was raised in Chicago where she attended St. Mary's High School. On June 16, 1945 Geraldine married John J. Nars in Chicago and together they lived in Goose Lake since moving from Chicago in 1975. John preceded Geraldine on May 12, 2009. A full time homemaker, Geraldine also worked as an Executive Assistant with The Research Center of IIT in Chicago, prior to gaining employment with Dr. Relucio, and later Dr. Francis. She was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City and enjoyed gardening and crocheting. Geraldine leaves behind vast heirlooms, which include blankets, afghans, pot holders and lace table clothes, and was proud to have earned 1st place for her handiwork at the Grundy County Corn Festival. She will be remembered for her love of crossword puzzles, in which she worked in ink, and the constant baking of cakes, cookies and cupcakes.
Survivors include her children: Rodney (Irene) Nars of Chicago, David (Diane) Nars of Goose Lake and Thomas (Lisa) Nars of Wheeling; four grandchildren: Dawn (George) Anyfiotis, Ian Nars, Anna Nars and Ethan Nars; one great granddaughter Zoe; two brothers Ronald (Donna) DePatie of Naples, Florida and Leroy (Barbara) DePatie of Martin, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband John and one sister Delores DePatie.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Friday December 28, 2012 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Saturday December 29th at 11:00AM in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Morris, where Geraldine will be laid to rest with her late husband.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Geraldine's memory to the Morris Hospital Foundation, 150 West High Street, Morris, Illinois 60450 or Assumption of the BVM Building Fund, 245 South Kankakee Street, Coal City, Illinois 60416.
