Gerald Halm

Age 84 of Wilmington, Illinois, formerly of Midlothian, Illinois, died Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Ascension Villa Franciscan Nursing Home in Joliet, Illinois.

Born July 17, 1940 in Peru, Illinois, Gerald William was a son of William and Dorothy (Haupt) Halm. He was raised and educated in Chicago and Worth, Illinois, and worked as a Teamster for many years. Gerald was an avid outdoorsman, looking for any opportunity to go fishing whenever he can. He was a member of many of the local area clubs, including The Gooselake Association, Braidwood Recreation Club, and the Alsip Sportsman’s Club. Being outdoors is what truly made Gerald happy, but he also took pleasure in travelling across the country.

Survivors include his sister and brother, Shirley (Dennis) Thoms of Braidwood, Illinois and Phillip (Lucille) Halm of Morris, Illinois; nieces and nephews: Jeff Thoms, Keith Thoms, Phillip Halm, Christopher Halm, Jennifer Halm, and Rose McGuire; as well as many numerous cousins and his good friends: Walt, Mike, and Greg.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Genevieve Halm on January 31, 2011.

Cremation rites are being accorded, and the family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. inurnment with full military honors will immediately follow the services at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, where Gerald will be laid to rest with his wife.
