Age 87 of Wilmington, passed away Sunday evening, August 6, 2017 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.

Born March 26, 1930 in Chicago, George was a son of George and Antoinette (Grabenhofer) Kirn. He was raised in Chicago and graduated from Tilden Tech. George was a member of UA Local 130 Plumbers and Tech Engineers, from where he retired after 30 years of service. He also belonged to Ducks Unlimited, Loyal Order of the Moose, and was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City. George will be remembered as an avid duck hunter, who also enjoyed camping and snowmobiling.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years Theresa (nee Cotter); two sons: Gary L. Kirn of Burbank and George J. Kirn of Wilmington; four step-children: Craig (Cindy) Mahlfeldt of New Lenox, Kurt (Sharon) Mahlfeldt of Crestwood, Pamela (Robert) Peele of Hubert, North Carolina and Keith (Janet) Mahlfeldt of Morris; (11) grandchildren: Catherine (Daniel) Weltmeyer, Jill Kirn, Karen Tryon, Wendy (Dan) Roake, Aaron Mahlfeldt, Maegan (Cory) Fookes, Jessica (Matt) Dymmel, Leah (Marc) Cockerham, Jenni (Allen) Smith, Paul (Alisha) Drew and Julie Mahlfeldt; (20) great grandchildren: Jessie, Zack, Jenna, Morgan, Cole, Justin, Malena, Henry, Will, Ethan, Lauren, Gabe, Caleb, Riley, Lawson, Hudson, Eloise, Madison, Hailey and Hunter, with another expected, and one sister Patsy (Andy) Caino of Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandson, Nathan Mahlfeldt.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. in St. Rose Catholic Church, 604 South Kankakee Street in Wilmington, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated with Reverend Sebastian Gargol and Reverend Robert Noesen.

Pallbearers will be: Gary Kirn, George J. Kirn, Craig Mahlfeldt, Kurt Mahlfeldt, Keith Mahlfeldt and Mark Cotter.

Cremation rites will be accorded following the services, and a private family inurnment will be in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Wilmington.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in George's memory to Assumption Catholic Church Building Fund, 195 South Kankakee Street, Coal City, Illinois 60416 or to Joliet Area Community Hospice.
