Genevieve Popovich Strahan

Age 85, a resident of Woodward, Oklahoma and formerly of Wilmington, Illinois passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Woodward Regional Hospital.

Genevieve was born December 23, 1929 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Joliet, Illinois, a daughter of the late Joseph and Isabel (McTavish) Popovich. She was raised in Joliet, Illinois where she attended Joliet Township High School. On February 5, 1949, Genevieve was united in marriage to George E. Strahan of Brookhaven, Mississippi. George preceded Genevieve in death on December 5, 1980. Genevieve and George began their life together in Brookhaven, Mississippi; and then set up residency near Wilmington, Illinois where they raised their family of seven children.  Genevieve was well known for her lust for life and her hard work ethic. Genevieve's employment history included, working for the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant, America Clothing Factories and Alison's Toy Studio. Genevieve also spent a fare portion of her later years caring for the elderly in her local neighborhood; but above all else, the care of her family was always Genevieve’s top priority.

Genevieve will be forever remembered for her love and enjoyment she showed to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will also be remembered for her love of anything western including her collection of Native America Dolls. Genevieve's memory will also bring to mind the great pride she took in tending to her many gardens. One of her greatest pastime was taking care of all of her rose bushes. She would always say how she had to keep the yellow roses for her husband George because that was their favorite ones. Genevieve also was never known to just stand idle. She took great pleasure in being outdoors; doing activities such as, going fishing, going to rodeos, painting, spending time with her sons at their horse stables, going to garage sales, and just visiting with her local neighbors.  Genevieve Popovich Strahan will truly be missed and her legacy will live on in all who knew her.

Survivors include her children: James (LuAnn) Strahan of Bonfield, IL, Edwin (Maureen) Strahan of Pensacola, FL, Kathy Strahan-Miranda of, Woodward, OK, George (Mary) Strahan, Jr. of Coal City, IL, Anita (Juan) Lara of Woodward, OK, and Robert (Catherine) Strahan of Naperville, IL; grandchildren: Adam Strahan, Noel Strahan, Ty (Dana) Strahan, Eddie (Brenda) Strahan, Kendra (Justin) Blanchette, Tricia (Skip) Grigas, Sara Miranda (David), Lexie (Aaron) Weiszbrod, Randi Strahan, Jason (Erika) Strahan, Wyatt Strahan, Julia Strahan and McKenna Strahan; great grandchildren: Courtney Strahan, Colten Strahan, Caley Strahan, Jacey Strahan, Payden Strahan, Quintin Strahan, Mavric Strahan, Zachary Strahan, Amanda Stockdale, Megan Holland, Olivia Blanchette, Tray Blanchette, Amber Grigas, Lacy Grigas, Bailey Grigas, Brecklin Weiszbrod, Bentley Weiszbrod, Jesus Ricardo Miranda, Chaz Anthony; one brother: Robert (Lorraine) Popovich of Wilmington, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as special friends Brad Meyers and Denny Meyers of Custer Park.
