Born April 30, 1927 in Humboldt, Tennessee, Garland Lee was a son of the late Dossie and Buelah (nee Holder) Morris. He was raised and educated in the Humboldt, Tennessee area, and went on to honorably serve in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1962. While on leave in Chicago, Garland met the love of his life, Demaris Ann Morgan through mutual friends, and on August 23, 1955 Garland and Ann were married. During his time of service the couple would find themselves living in various places along the East Coast while starting a family. They were finally able to settle into Frankfort, Illinois where they would raise and educate their children, and where Garland would become a Foreman for General Motors in the Locomotive Division. After twenty-five years of dedicated service, he retired. Upon retirement Garland and Ann moved to Phil Campbell, Alabama for 16 years until deciding to call Morris, Illinois home permanently in November, 2001.
Garland was a member of the First Baptist Church in Morris and volunteered as a policeman in both Frankfort and Phil Campbell. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening and tending to his yard.
