Freddie S. Read
Age 85 of Wilmington and formerly of Shelbyville, Illinois, passed away Saturday morning July 11, 2015 at his home.
Born October 26, 1929 in Findlay, Illinois, Freddie Silas was a son of the late George W. and Iva M. (Voyles) Read. He was raised and educated in the Shelbyville area and went onto honorably serve in the United States Army. On July 2, 1950, Freddie married Margaret Evelyn Williams in Shelbyville and she preceded him on June 5, 2010. Freddie retired as a Locks Master with the US Army Corps of Engineers, and worked at both the Dresden and Brandon Road Locks. He was a member of the Wilmington Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 241 and the Silver Oaks Golf Club at the Braidwood Recreation Club. In his earlier years, Freddie enjoyed horse shoes and for the past 25 years has been a great golf enthusiast. He was a fan of the Chicago Bulls and took great pleasure in spending time with his family and grandchildren, whom he adored.
Survivors include his son Gary (Annamarie) Read of Diamond; three grandchildren: Rebecca (Juan) Duran of Godley, Nicole (Charles) Geisen of Bradley and Alisha Read of Diamond; (7) great grandchildren: Richelle (Bill) Scott, Sabrina Duran, Selena Duran, Justin Read, Jadyn Read, Julian Read and Jayla Read and one great-great grandson Wyatt Scott, as well as his special lady friend Victoria Zaccaro of Braidwood.
Freddie was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret; son Freddie "Gene" Read and grandson David Read.
The family will receive friends on Saturday July 18, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until time of memorial service 12:00 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. A private family inurnment will be in the columbarium at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Freddie's memory to Joliet Area Community Hospice.
