Freda M. Schellenberger a�" Dillbeck
Age 90 of Coal City, passed away Tuesday February 23, 2010 at her home.
Born January 24, 1920 in Golconda, Illinois, Freda was a daughter of the late Thomas and Iva Graves-Vaughn. She was raised in East St. Louis and on October 22, 1938 Freda married Robert Schellenberger in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Robert preceded Freda in death in June 1967. She was employed by Western Electric for 23 years, until retiring in 1982 and moved to Coal City in 1988. Freda volunteered as a clown for Telephone Pioneers before and after retiring and she enjoyed cooking for her daughter and son-in-law's employees to keep active. Freda was known for baking the family holiday treats for more than 50 years and made crafts for her granddaughters craft shows. She sewed fleece blankets for all her new great-great grandchildren and sewed and mended for Hillside Nursing Home in Yorkville when she lived in the area. Freda also took delight in helping her grandchildren in charity and fund raising events throughout her life. She was also very proud of her two sets of five generations.
Survivors include her daughters: Connie (Lloyd "Red") Crosby of Jupiter, Florida, Nancy (Joe) Dunn of Delaware, Ohio, Darla Fuller of Dwight and Laura "Mikie" (Max) Valdez of Coal City; (11) grandchildren; (26) great grandchildren; (12) great-great grandchildren and brother Sherman "Spud" (Ellen) Vaughn of Romeoville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Thomas, Thomas, Jr. and Larry and sisters: Pearl Shock and Moree Neal.
A celebration of Freda's life will be held Saturday May 22, 2010 at 10:00AM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Inurnment will immediately follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park II a�" Hills of Rest in Joliet.
No flowers please, preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Freda's memory to Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice, 518 West Illinois Avenue, Morris, Illinois 60450.
