Frank J. Walcher
Age 92 of Wilmington, passed away Tuesday March 6, 2012 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
Born September 26, 1919 in Dwight, Frank was a son of the late John and Helen Perry-Walcher. He was raised and educated in Dwight and Onarga and graduated from Onarga High School. Frank was a proud Veteran of the United States Army and on December 16, 1945, married Wanda Dow in Gilman. Frank retired from the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant in 1976 and went on to establish a second career with Burnes International, from where he retired in the early 1990's. It was with Burnes International that Frank was employed as a Sergeant at Commonwealth Edison's Collins Station. He greatly enjoyed working on automobiles, and woodworking and will be remembered as a true craftsman. Frank loved his cats, as well as politics and truly cherished the time spent working on projects with his granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years: Wanda; three children: Connie (Dr. David) Johnson of Redding, California, Frank V. Walcher of Greensboro, North Carolina and James (Mary) Walcher of Wilmington; three granddaughters: Rebecca Brissey of Redding, California and Rachel Walcher and Jessica (Benjamin) Dietz, both of Wilmington, and four great grandchildren: Keenan Anthis, ZoA� Anthis, Jack Brissey and Austin Dietz, with another expected, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Mary and Gertrude and one brother Robert.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Monday March 12, 2012 from 12:00 Noon until time of funeral service 2:00PM at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington.
