Frank Joseph Gorney, Jr.

Age 77 of Wilmington passed away Sunday November 8, 2015 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.

Born June 24, 1938 in Ohio, Francis Joseph was a son of the late Francis J., Sr. and Ruth L. Burns-Gorney.  He was raised and educated in Toledo, Ohio, and went on to serve his country with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Frank was employed by International Sheet Metal Worker’s Local Unions 50 and 265 for a combined 36 years before retiring. He was a third degree Knight with the Braidwood Knights of Columbus Council #1574 for fifteen years; was past president of the Lakewood Shores Water Committee, and formerly served as a Trustee for Wesley Township.  Frank enjoyed morning coffee with his buddies; taking annual fishing, camping and boating trips; spending time with his family, and attending family functions.  He also cherished man’s best friend, Max.

Survivors include his long term partner and loving wife: Phyllis Jean Gorney of Wilmington; five children: Frank (fiancé, Janice) Gorney III of Tennessee, Charles (Janet) Faurot of Diamond, Christal (Orlando) Rivera of Wilmington, Rebecca (David) Gorney of Wilmington and Lucille (Kevin) Rodgers of Hidalgo, Illinois; 18 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; ten siblings: Sue (Emmette) Pickens, Jean Tupciauskas, Mary Gorney, Anthony (Carol) Gorney, Patricia Shirkey, John (Linda) Gorney, Sr., Theresa (Jim) Gragg, Joanne Parker, Genevieve Ceci and Veronica (Ron) Tibble; one sister-in-law: Gladys Gorney, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; two siblings: Michael Gorney and Elizabeth Alexander; one grandson and great grandson, and special grandmother: Lucille Hannigan.

Visitation and video tribute will be on Wednesday November 11, 2015 from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Rose Catholic Church, 604 South Kankakee Street in Wilmington, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Steve Bondi officiating.  Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral, and inurnment with full military honors will be on Thursday November 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.  Family and friends who wish to attend the cemetery services are encouraged to arrive at Baskerville Funeral Home on Thursday morning by 9:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Frank’s memory to his family for their distribution.
