Age 72, and long time resident of the Joliet area, died Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois.
Born August 7, 1951 in Joliet, Illinois, Frank Wayne Cary would begin his life in Illinois before moving to California where he graduated from Sylmar High School in Los Angeles. At the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served until his honorable discharge in 1971. Frank would relocate back to the Joliet area and worked for EJ&E Railroad and Union 76 Citgo Refinery for several years before gaining employment with NRG Energy. He worked as a supervisor at multiple different locations until he retired.
Frank was very interested in anything to do with cars, and could take them completely apart and put them right back together again. He took great pleasure in attending car shows and going to local race tracks, and was an all around motorsports enthusiast. He was a great cook who took great pride in mastering his smoker, and had recently taken to growing his own herbs to create his own signature spice blends. Frank was firm but fair, and was a man of high integrity who understood the value of hard work. Family was his number one priority, and he especially treasured his relationships with his grandchildren and making sure to have a unique relationship with each of them.
Survivors include his wife, Noel Cary of Braidwood, Illinois; three children: Michele (Jonathan) Rustvold of Renton, Washington, John (Sandy) Cary of Wilmington, Illinois, and Joshua (Michelle) Cary of Fremont, Ohio; ten grandchildren: Alyssa, Jacob, Mercer, Caitlyn, Kyle, Nicholas, Grace, Clara, Ryland, and Laiken; three great grandchildren: Bentley, Graciela, and Aubrie; and one sister, Cathy (Jim) Stam of Athol, Idaho.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Debra McCarthy, and his uncle, Roger Cary.
Per his wishes, cremation rites are being accorded and Frank will be laid to rest privately with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
Family and friends are encouraged to sign the online guest book, upload photographs, and share Frank's memorial page via social media.
Cremation services and memorial arrangements have been made under the direction and care of Reeves and Baskerville Funeral Homes & Crematory in Wilmington (815) 476-2181.
