Fern Howell

Age 97 of Wilmington, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, February 10, 2016 at Aperion Care in Wilmington.

Born May 2, 1918 in Ramsey, Illinois, Fern Bernice was a daughter of the late James Henry and Mary Jane (Green) Rhodes. Mrs. Howell was the wife of the late John C. Howell, Sr. who preceded her on August 13, 1993. She was a member of Kankakee Gospel Assembly in Bourbonnais, where she truly enjoyed attending. Fern also took pleasure in gardening. She will be remembered for her love of reading the Bible, and spending time with her family, which was of utmost importance to her.

Survivors include her son: James L. (Lou) Howell and son-in-law Danny Murphy, both of Wilmington; (14) grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; her brother-in-law Paul Countryman of Wilmington, and two sisters-in-law: Helen Rhodes of Ramsey and Velma Rhodes of Wilmington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband John C. Howell, Sr., two sons: John C. Howell, Jr. and William E. Howell; one daughter Karen S. Murphy, and six brothers and three sisters:  John, Arthur, Virgil, Opal, Oral, Rosie, Jim, Joe and Rosemary.

Visitation and video tribute will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2016 between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Brother Steve Wilkinson from Kankakee Gospel Assembly officiating.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington, where Fern will be laid to rest with her late husband.
