Evelyn G. Spivey

Age 95 of Spokane, Washington, formerly of Wilmington, IL, Hollywood, FL, and Suffolk and Portsmouth, VA, passed away Friday February 17, 2017 at Hospice of Spokane.

Born April 11, 1921 in Akron, Ohio, Evelyn Groff was a daughter of Earl and Hazel (nee McCrory) Groff. She graduated high school in LaSalle, Illinois with the Class of 1939, and on April 10, 1945, she married the late Donald G. Spivey. Evelyn and Donald made their home in Wilmington to raise their family, where she was a member of First United Methodist Church. She would relocate to a condominium in Spokane, where she made many friends and joined First Presbyterian Church. Evelyn enjoyed crocheting, reading, and discussing politics. She was a wonderful mother to her two sons, a loving grandmother and great grandmother, and devoted wife to her husband of nearly 50 years, and she will be missed by many.

Survivors include her son: Daniel P. (Melissa J.) Spivey of Spokane, Washington; four grandchildren: Pat (Donna) Spivey and Tiffany (Danny) Lausch, both of Wilmington, Rachael (Tyson) Robichaud of Portland, Oregon and Ryan (Michelle) Spivey of Everett, Washington; seven great grandchildren; little sister: Virginia (Bob) Harrington of Wichita, Kansas, whose children and grandchildren were very much a part of Evelyn’s family fold; special friends: Max and Debbie Glass, and Ronnie Jones, all of Wilmington; as well as several others who lovingly helped attend to Evelyn’s medical needs.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald in April, 1995; her son: David Spivey in 2001, and her daughter-in-law: Mary Alice "Butch" Spivey.

Visitation will be Friday February 24, 2017 at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington, from 1:30 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow the funeral in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Evelyn’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choosing.
