Ervin F. Born
Age 90 of Coal City, died Monday, June 1, 2009 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno, Illinois.
Born February 11, 1919 in Coal City, Ervin was a son of the late John B. and Theresa Vacca - Born. He was raised and educated in Coal City and was a graduate of Coal City High School. On March 2, 1942, Ervin enlisted in the United States Army-Air Corp at Camp Grant. During his service Ervin earned the American Theater Medal, European Theater Medal, Middle Eastern Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal prior to his honorable discharge at Camp McCoy in Illinois on March 11, 1946. Ervin worked for 28 years at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant and retired in 1973. In his free time Ervin enjoyed bowling and working in the garden, raising tomatoes and peppers. Ervin was a hard working man with a great sense of humor, who believed in getting things done right the first time.
Survivors include four children: Bradford Born of San Diego, California, Davy Lynn (Steven) Pont of Winchester, Virginia, Terry (Virginia) McCammon of Athens, Ohio and Kim McCammon of Mazon; Seven grandchildren: Steven and Troy Pont, Bret and Darren McCammon, Kaeli and Brandon Thetard and Loraine Palmeda; four Great Grandchildren: Logan and McKinnley Evans, and Alexia and Kaitlyn Thetard; one brother John Born and one sister-in-law Marian Born, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Donald, Raymond and Leroy, and one sister Rosemary.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Thursday June 04, 2009 between the hours of 4:00PM and 7:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City.
Funeral services will follow on Friday June 5th at 11:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Ronald Hart officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Ervin's memory to the Illinois Veteran's Home Activities Department, 1 Veterans Drive, Manteno, Illinois 60950.
