Eric J. Schutz

Age 60 of Wilmington, Illinois passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 12, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 5, 1963 in Evergreen Park, IL.  Eric James was a son of Edwin Werner and Anne Marie (Sabaitis) Schutz. He was raised and educated in Chicago Ridge and graduated from St, Lawrence High School with the Class of 1981.

Eric’s career in property management and working for several property management companies over the past 40 plus years led to him living in Hinsdale,  Aurora, Lisle, Romeoville, Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Manville, before finally settling in Wilmington. He was a member of the South Wilmington Fireman’s Club and was always proud to have been able to coach his kids in any sport they were involved. Eric was the founder of the Wilmington Wolves Travel Softball Team, and led them to their World Series in 2012. He was also a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and loved being at Wrigley Field. In his free time, Eric simply enjoyed listening to many different genres of music and being in the presence of family.

A true man of his word and from time to time characterized as stubborn, Eric was a strong leader and held a stellar work ethic. He had a giving soul, and leaves behind a priceless collection of memories to those lucky to have been within his circle.

Survivors include his wife, Roxanne (nee White) whom he married January 15, 1999; four children: Eric, Jr. (Maggie) of Minooka, Illinois, Ryan (Heather) of New Lenox, Illinois, Kyle (Jessica) of Orland Park, Illinois and Madison of Wilmington; six grandchildren: Eloise, Everett, Zahara, Jozyah, Lydia and Mara Schutz; one sister, Juanita (Duane) Degroot; brothers: Ed (Chris) Schutz, Tom (Cathy) Schutz, Allen (Jenn) Schutz, Bill Schutz, Charles Schutz and Michael Schutz; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as cousins.

Eric was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, John Sabaitis.
