Elsie E. Groff
Age 89 of Coal City, passed away Friday October 27, 2006 at the Morris Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born December 26, 1916 in Carbon Hill, Elsie was a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Rolando) Enrietta. She was raised and educated in Carbon Hill and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1934. Elsie was married to Nick Groff who preceded her in death and then married Frank J. Groff. They lived their entire married life in Coal City. Elsie was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, Assumption Mother's Club and was a Gold Star member of the Coal City VFW. In her free time, Elsie enjoyed cooking and baking.
Survivors include her daughter Karen (Eugene) Smyk and one sister Verna Rawlish, both of Coal City, one sister-in-law Dorothy Enrietta of Morris and one brother-in-law Jim Macketta of Dwight, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Nick Groff, second husband Frank J. Groff and two brothers and three sisters: Mary Owens, Genevieve Hakey, John Enrietta, Evelyn Faletti and Louis Enrietta.
Visitation will be held on Sunday October 29, 2006 between the hours of 2:00PM and 5:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow on Monday October 30th at 10:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Mike Pennock officiating. Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.
