Elmer A. Rolando

Age 88 of Diamond, passed away Friday December 19, 2008 at Morris Hospital.

Born October 18, 1920 in Custer Park, Elmer was a son of the late Peter and Kate Weikum-Rolando. He was raised and educated in Goose Lake and on August 12, 1944 Elmer married Shirley Yoder in Morris. Together Elmer and Shirley have resided in Diamond for 54 years. Elmer farmed prior to gaining employment with Local Union 150, where he worked as an operating engineer for more than 50 years. He was a member of Coal City United Methodist Church, member and active volunteer with the Coal City Lions Club, member of the Morris Moose Lodge and belonged to the Gleaners Association. Elmer served as Village Commissioner in Diamond, and was the Mayor of Diamond for 12 years. In his free time Elmer enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Shirley; four children: Roger (Jean) Rolando of Joliet, Jeff (Holly) Rolando of Coal City, Ross (Joe) Rolando of Chicago and Melody (Robert) Russ of Plainfield; four grandchildren: Sean (Melinda) Rolando and Erika Rolando, both of Joliet, Jason Rolando of Kankakee and Ein Estes of Coal City; two brothers and three sisters: LaVerne Rolando of Joliet, William (Dorothy) Rolando of Mazon, Ruby Green of Wilmington, Irene Brooks and Florence Mitchell, both of Morris and one sister-in-law Fran Rolando of Coal City, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Clarence Rolando.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Tuesday December 23, 2008 from 9:00AM until time of funeral service 12:30PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Pastor Tom Logsdon from the Coal City United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Mark Wills, Ronald Green, Mike McFarland, John Rolando, Richard Mitchell and Bob Howen.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Elmers memory to the Coal City United Methodist Church Building Fund, 6805 East McArdle Road in Coal City, IL 60416.
