Eldon Fisher
Age 93 of Wilmington, Illinois and formerly Seneca, Missouri, passed away Saturday morning, April 6, 2013 at his home.
Born May 7, 1919 in Fremont, Ohio, Eldon was a son of the late Louis J. and Verna H. Swanger-Fisher. He was raised and educated in Fremont, Ohio, where he also farmed the family farm. In April of 1943, Eldon married Mary Elizabeth Held in Fremont, Ohio. He owned and operated E.J. Fisher Paving and Excavating until 1963, and later moved to Chicago, where he gained employment in the steel mills. He retired as a mechanic for Portable Tool and Rental in 1979. After retirement, Eldon and Mary moved to Missouri where he raised Hereford cattle and horses, and has most recently resided in Wilmington since 2008. Eldon enjoyed horseback riding and antique John Deere tractors and engines.
Survivors include five children: Joseph (Bonnie) Fisher of Downers Grove, Illinois, Peter (Georgette) Fisher of Gary, Indiana, Deirdre Brunton of Murphysboro, Illinois, Susan Fugate of Portland, Oregon, and Virgil (Teresa) Fisher of Wilmington, Illinois; eight grandchildren: Catharine (Stephen) Dull, Priscilla Fisher, Mary Jo (David) Fisher, Mindy Fugate, Tonicia Brunton, Eldon (Elizabeth) Brunton, Jacob Fisher and Meghan Fisher and eight great grandchildren, as well as another on the way.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Mary Elizabeth in 2000.
Per Eldon's wishes cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday April 11, 2013 from 5:00pm until time of Celebration of Life at 7:00pm at Freitag-Reeves and Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington.
Eldon will be laid to rest with his wife Mary Elizabeth in St. Mary Cemetery in Seneca, Missouri at a later date.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Eldon's memory to Vitas Hospice, 525 East North Street, Bradley, Illinois 60915.
