Elaine M. Middleton
(nee Zambon)
Age 80 of Coal City, passed away Wednesday evening, July 20, 2016 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Born September 8, 1935 in Morris, Elaine Mary was a daughter of the late James, Sr. and Judith (Berta) Zambon. She was raised and lived her entire life in Coal City. Elaine attended the Northside Elementary School and graduated with the Coal City High School Class of 1953. On February 7, 1954, Elaine married Philip Charles Middleton in Assumption Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death on June 27, 1999. She was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, belonged to a women's card club for many years, and bowled on a mixed league in Wilmington. In years past Elaine worked as a cashier at Testa's IGA. In her free time she enjoyed reading, collecting recipes, sewing and needlepoint. Elaine took pleasure in gardening, preserving fruits and vegetables, cooking, baking and playing bingo. She drove for Meals on Wheels for many years and loved going to the local casinos for meals and light gambling.
Survivors include her sons: Philip Lee "Leo" (Pam) Middleton and Paul Alan (Teri) Middleton, both of Coal City; four grandchildren: Paul Christopher (Christina) Middleton of Diamond, Jennifer Renee (Naithan) Richards of Wilmington, and Tina Marie Middleton and Jeffrey Michael (Cailey) Middleton, both of Coal City; (13) great grandchildren; one sister Diane Zambon of Morris; one sister-in-law Mary Zambon of Medford, New Jersey and nieces and nephews: James T. Zambon, Judy Zambon, Lisa Stump, Theresa Meyer and Grace Ardizzone, as well as numerous cousins.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Philip; daughter Cynthia in infancy; great grandson Jareth Middleton in infancy; brother James Zambon, Jr. and her best friend Viola Shoemaker.
Visitation and video tribute will be held on Monday, July 25, 2016 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Due to the renovation of Assumption Parish in Coal City, the funeral services will follow Tuesday morning, July 26th at 10:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 110 South School Street in Braidwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Show Reddy Allam officiating.
Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, where Elaine will be laid to rest with her late husband Philip.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Elaine's memory to the Grundy County Community Nutrition Network (Meals on Wheels) or to The Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
