Edwin J. Arthur
Age 90 of Coal City, passed away Thursday January 18, 2007 at Morris Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Born December 18, 1916 in Coal City, Ed was a son of the late James and Kate (Lafferty) Arthur. He was raised and educated in Joliet and Coal City. Ed was a veteran of the US Army, having served during World War II in the European, African and Mid East Theater of Operations with the 95th and 378th Infantry. While serving our country he received the Bronze Star Medal, (2) Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Military Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Ed also received a Military Medal from the British Government for Heroism. He was employed by Desoto Chemical Company of Joliet until his retirement in 1982 and was a lifetime member of Cantigny Post #367 in Joliet.
Survivors include three grandchildren: Debra (John) Abel of Shorewood and Allen (Debbie) Klausing and Ellen Frederick, both of New Lenox. Three great grandchildren; one niece Donita (Norm, Sr.) Lardi of South Wilmington and one nephew John (Anita) Arthur of Milton, Florida, as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Carol Jean Klausing; one great granddaughter Laure Abel; his sister-in-law and companion Juanita Arthur and two brothers: John "Bunny" Arthur and James (Lucille) Arthur.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 23, 2007 between the hours of 4:00PM and 7:30PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday January 24, 2007 at 10:00AM in the funeral home with Dr. Thomas Logsdon from the Coal City United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery and pallbearers will be: John Arthur, Norm Lardi, Jr., Ron Lardi, Kyle Hines, Ricky Oster and David Oster.
Preferred memorial may be made as gifts in Ed's memory to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, Illinois 60431.
