Edward Frank Marszalek
Age 85 of Morris, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno.
Born July 14, 1923 in Chicago, Edward was a son of the late John and Victoria Wesolowska-Marszalek. He was raised in the Brighton Park area of Chicago and was a graduate of Kelly High School in Chicago with the Class of 1941. In 1943 Edward entered into the United States Army, where he served in the 82nd Airborne Glider Infantry throughout the European Theater of Operations. It was there that he landed behind enemy lines and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. The glider pilots and troops were honored by the 110th Congress and Edward was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Battle Star, European, African and Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal prior to his honorable discharge on July 4th 1945. Edward attended Joliet Junior College, where he earned his Associates Degree in Accounting and was a self employed Accountant in Chicago for 25 years. After moving to Morris, Edward gained employment with D&S Foods in Morris in 1975, and was employed as a clerk until his retirement in 1985. Edward was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans and a former member of Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Chicago. In his free time he enjoyed watching all sports, fishing, hiking, stamp collecting, traveling and attending family celebrations.
Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years: Jessie; and her children: Frank Davis of Morris, Kathryn (Joe) Haisan of Las Vegas, Nevada and Pamela Alexander of Sacramento, California; extended family granddaughters: Lisa Hetzel of Iowa, Lora Wilson of Chicago and Jessie Rae Alexander-Burrows of California; five extended family great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; one brother John (Wanda) Marszalek of Chicago, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as a loyal family friend Richard W. Hargis of Morris.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Frank Marszalek and Stanley Marszalek and three sisters: Mary Paluch, Anna Krzan and Josephine Marszalek.
Graveside services will be held on Friday November 21, 2008 at 10:00AM in Evergreen Cemetery in Morris. Reverend Richard Smith from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will officiate and Military Honors will be provided by the Morris Color Guard.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Edward's memory to the Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District, 2301 Ashton Road, Morris, Illinois 60450.
