Edna Elsie Micetich - Keating
(nee Burns)
Age 94 of Coal City, passed away Sunday January 24, 2010 at Heritage Manor in Dwight.
Born August 6, 1914 in rural Gardner, Edna was a daughter of the late John and Ida Wallin-Burns. She was raised and educated in the rural Grundy County area, and on April 25, 1934, married Philip J. "Joe" Micetich who preceded her in death on November 11, 1968. It was then on September 12, 1970, Edna married Arthur Keating, and he also preceded her in death on April 28, 1996. All of her married life Edna resided in the Coal City area and was a self-employed seamstress, as well as worked for the local garment factories. She was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church and the ladies auxiliary of the St. Juvin VFW Post 1336. Edna enjoyed bowling, cards, sewing, travel, baking, and was a Chicago White Sox fan, as well as enjoyed following the Coal City sports teams. She is also remembered as a trusted confidant and self-educated philosopher to her family and friends.
Survivors include her three sons: John "Jack" (Shirley) Micetich, James (Nancy) Micetich and Jerry Micetich all of Coal City; six step-children: Dennis (Betty Rae) Keating, Phillip (Harriet) Keating, Kathleen Keating, Mary Beth (the late Gary) Barnett, Peggy (Bill) Stonich and Stephen Keating; nine grandchildren: Joel (Linda) Micetich, Jill (Douglas) Larson, Jon (Juli) Micetich, Jolene (Troy) Manietta, Mark (Sophie) Micetich, Matt Micetich, Tim Micetich, Meredith Micetich and Molly Micetich; fifteen great grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Joe Micetich; second husband Arthur Keating; two brothers: Arthur Burns and Walter (Helen) Burns; two sisters: Ethel (Russel) Battersby and Vera (Martin) Rink and two stepsons: Thomas and Arthur "Joe" Keating.
The family will receive friends at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City on Saturday January 30th from 9:00AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial 10:00AM. Reverend Robert Noesen will officiate and a funeral luncheon provided by The Martha's will immediately follow the services in the Berst Center. Edna will then be interred at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with her first husband.
Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Edna's memory to the Coal City Unit #1 Education Foundation or the Morris Hospital Foundation.
