Earl L. Schmalz, Jr.
Age 69 of Wilmington, passed away Sunday December 18, 2011 at Embassy Care Center in Wilmington.
Born December 18, 1942 in Joliet, Earl was a son of the late Earl Leonard Schmalz, Sr. and Margaret Ann O'Connor-Schmalz. He was raised in Wilmington, a graduate of Wilmington High School and continued on to honorably serve in the United States Army. Earl worked with his family, whom owned Schmalz Flower Shop and Greenhouse in Wilmington, and later retired as an Iron Worker. He had moved to San Mateo, California, however returned home to Wilmington in 2009. Earl was a member of the Iron Workers Local and the Eagles Club of Frankfort, Michigan. He was a great sports enthusiast and will be remembered for his love of watching televised games.
Survivors include two brothers: John (Geri) Schmalz of Wilmington and William Schmalz of Louisiana; two nieces: Stacie and Julie; one nephew John and five great nieces and great nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents and two wives: Barbara and Kathy.
Per Earl's wishes, there will be no services and burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
