Douglas R. Walter, 75, of Morris, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
Born December 29, 1946 in Morris, he was the son of the late Ralph and Virginia (Knapp) Walter.
He graduated from Morris Community High School with the class of 1964. He proudly served 2 years in the US army during the Vietnam War.
Doug married the love of his life, Kathryn (Kathy) Leibold of Morris on October 18, 1986 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris. They recently celebrated 36 years of marriage.
He worked for Caterpillar Tractor before leaving to go work for Illinois Bell/AT&T retiring after 30 years.
Doug enjoyed snowmobiling and hanging out at Lissy’s Polaris Shop. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding, traveling, keeping a well-kept lawn, having a drink on the patio as supper cooked on the grill and spending time with family. Favorite holiday was Thanksgiving.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia (Knapp) Walter, father Ralph Walter and stepmother Marge (Terry) Walter, mother-in-law, Elizabeth Bower and father-in-law, Richard Leibold.
He is survived by his wife Kathy of Morris, daughter Susan (Bob) Kruse of Duluth, MN, grandson’s Bob (Kim) Kruse of Pasadena, MD and Jim (Liliana) Kruse of Colorado springs, CO, his brother Mike (Margo) Walter of Tonica, Il, sister’s and brother’s-in-law, Jackie and Gary Taylor of Morris, Il and Denise and Gary Largo of Rosemount, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials can go to the American Lung association, St. Jude’s Research Hospital or American Heart Association.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at the Fruland Funeral Home, 121 W. Jefferson St. in Morris with Pastor William Shields officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at Plattville Lutheran Cemetery. The Morris Color Guard will provide military honors following the funeral service.
