Coal City resident Doug Montana passed away on August 21, 2008, at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois. He was born Douglas Wayne Montana on December 14, 1969, in Morris, Illinois, to parents Denise and Laverne Montana. Doug was a lifelong resident of the Coal City area who obtained his General Education Degree in 1988. On August 14, 1997, Doug married Tina Patterson of Downers Grove, Illinois, and together they had three children.
Doug was a self-taught carpenter and tradesman. As a member of the Laborer's Union Local 75, he was employed at Mobil Oil Company in Joliet, Illinois. Doug was an avid outdoorsman, who was skilled in the common tools of archery, hunting, and fishing as well as the more obscure implements like the crossbow, mace, and chainmail. He was a student of both nature and human nature; and in the latter capacity, was versed in medieval history, practices, weaponry, and armors.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Ivy and Peter Montana and Paul Gilmour. He is survived by parents LaVerne "Woody" Montana and Denise Gilmour Schrum of Coal City and Kankakee, respectively; and siblings Holly Tazelaar, Jason Schrum, Rachael Schrum, Danelle Hennings, Melissa Hennings, Mark Hennings, Rodney Carmen, Troy Carmen, Lisa Hamilton, and Amanda Carmen. He is also survived by his loving wife, Tina Montana, and his three children, Destiny, Samantha, and Sloane.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 25, 2008, between the hours of 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. A celebration and remembrance of Doug's life will follow on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at 10:00 am in the funeral home. Interment will be in Mazon Brookside Cemetery, in Mazon, Illinois.
Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Doug's memory to his family for the benefit of his children.
