Douglas L. Cotter
Age 66 of Morris, passed away Thursday evening, March 19, 2015 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Born May 2, 1948 in Joliet, Douglas was a son of the late James L. Cotter and Burnette (nee Johnson). He was raised and educated in Morris, and graduated from Morris Community High School with the class of 1966. Douglas was a Veteran of the United States Army, and honorably served during the Vietnam Conflict. On March 9, 1968, Douglas married LaRae Harrington in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris, and together they made their home and raised their family in Morris. Douglas retired from AT&T as a communications technician and repairman in 2000, after 30 years of service. He also farmed for a short time with Mark Wills Farms. Doug was a member of the American Legion, Telephone Pioneers, Knights of Columbus and National Rifleman's Association. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and took pleasure in fishing, hunting and camping. He will be remembered as a meticulous individual who took pride in preserving what he worked so hard for.
Survivors include his loving wife 47 years, LaRae; one son Douglas Cotter, Jr. of Gunnison, Colorado, one sister Sharon (Charles) Priovolos of Lockport; one half-sister Cathy Salerno of Nevada; his mother-in-law Gloria Harrington, and sisters-in-law: Sharee (the late Jerry) Beeler of Mazon, Cynthia Lyne and Kathie (John) Spreitzer, both of Morris, Michelle (Pete) Lake of Missouri, Heidi Harrington of Morris, and Stacie Cortez of Joliet.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents: Burnette and William Brady and James L. Cotter; one son Timothy Cotter in 1989; one brother James in infancy; his father-in-law LeRoy Harrington, and one sister-in-law Patricia (David) Edmunds.
Visitation and video tribute will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 East Jackson Street in Morris on Monday, March 23, 2015 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow Tuesday morning, March 24th at 10:00 a.m. in the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Revered Ed Howe, CR officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Morris, where Douglas will be laid to rest with his son Timothy. Full military honors will be rendered and provided by the Morris Color Guard.
Pallbearers will be: Adam Akre, Calvert 'Scooter' Kuykendall, Aaron Fox, Tom Cotter, Jonathan Cotter and Thomas Peceny. Austin Akre will be an honorary pallbearer
