Dorothy “Dee Dee” Schennum
Age 96 of Coal City passed away Monday October 19, 2015 at Liberty Village in Princeton.
Born March 22, 1919 in Gardner, Dee Dee was a daughter of the late George and Anastasia “Dolly” Brusnigham-Johnson. She was raised and educated in Gardner, and married Howard Schennum. Dee-Dee was a member of the Coal City United Methodist Church, and one of the original founders that helped establish a local kindergarten. She was a homemaker for most of her life, but also worked for Boggio's, Wayne's Cardinal and Bellettini's grocery stores. Dee-Dee will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and an all-around nice person that will be missed by many.
Survivors include her children: Maurie (Carol) Schennum of Princeton and Gary (Marion) Schennum of Lake Tahoe, Nevada; four grandchildren: Scott, Steve, Michael and Karen; five great grandchildren: Hayden, Isaac, Sam, Matthew and Sarah; one sister: Phyllis Phillips of Coal City, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dee Dee was preceded in death by her parents; husband Howard on April 9, 2009, and four siblings: Harold Johnson, Helen Reiger, Alice Neece and Kathleen Johnson.
Visitation will be Monday October 26, 2015 at Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 East McArdle Road, from 10:00 AM until the time of funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the services in Braceville Gardner Cemetery where Dee Dee will be buried with her husband.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Dee Dee’s memory to the Coal City United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
