Don “Yogi” Johnson
Age 55 of Park Ridge, formerly Chicago, passed away Sunday July 3, 2016 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Born July 27, 1960 in Chicago, Donald Scott was a son of the late Theodore and Marie Pennington-Johnson. He was raised and educated in Chicago, graduating from Saint Rita of Cascia High School with the Class of 1978, and later received a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Illinois at Chicago in 1994. Though he had a long career in medical records, Donnie transitioned into working for Vince’s in Park Ridge, as an outlet for his passion for food. He enjoyed trying new places to eat, and preparing meals for all of his family and friends. As an avid reader, a book recommendation from Donnie was always available, and wise to take into consideration. He was always reading something new, and his taste in books transcended all genres. Donnie was a quintessential Sox Fan. He would rail about every little mistake they made and was skeptical about everything that went well, but he lived and died by his team and was so proud when they won the World Series in 2005. Above all else, Donnie was a loyal person who put great stock in his relationships with all who knew him. He made every effort to attend holiday and social gatherings, and he will be missed dearly, but certainly not forgotten.
Survivors include his brother: Kenneth (Agnes) Johnson of Riverside; two sisters: Kerri (Gerard) Nolan of Chicago and Terri (Michael) Valeriano of Godley; nieces and nephews: Ted Johnson of Chicago, Shannon (Jason) Singleton of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jillian (Justin) Nolan-Schranz of Dyer, Indiana, Nicholas Nolan of Indianapolis, Indiana, Richard Tanner of Chicago, and Alexander (Katrina Crone) Nolan of Morris; great nieces: Zaida and Penelope Schranz, as well as his best friends, known as “the Old No. 7’s”.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
