Domingo "Mingo" Cornelio

Age 69 of Wilmington, formerly Chicago, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

Born May 31, 1945 in Chicago, Mingo was a son of the late Mary (nee Martinez) and Luis Cornelio. He was raised and educated in Chicago and graduated from Kelly High School with the class of 1963. On June 30, 1972 Mingo married Carol Ann O'Leary in Chicago. He was employed as a carpenter with the Carpenter Union Local 1539 which he was a member of for over 40 years before retiring in 2005. Mingo was also a member of VFW Post 5422-Wilmington, where he was Quartermaster, and served as a member of the Wilmington VFW Honor Guard and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Honor Squad. Mingo will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, especially fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years Carol; four children: Alexius (Aimee) Cornelio, David Cornelio and Luis Cornelio, all of Wilmington and Jamie Cornelio of Plainfield; four grandchildren: Brittany Jennings of Mokena, Alexi Cornelio of Wilmington and Nathan and Skylar Cornelio, both of Joliet; four brothers: Louis Cornelio of Round Lake, Mario (Darlene) Cornelio of Shorewood, and Johnny and Michael Cornelio, both of Chicago; two sisters: Carmen Cornelio of Tinley Park and Mary (Ed) Barba of Chicago; brother-in-law: Vincent Moreno of Nebraska and many nieces and nephews.

Mingo was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rebecca Moreno and one sibling in infancy.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15th at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington between the hours of 4:00pm and 8:00pm. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, July 16th at 10:30am in the funeral home. Reverend Steve Bondi will officiate, and burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Pallbearers will be Alex Cornelio, David Cornelio, Luis Cornelio, Nathan Cornelio, Edward Barba and Brandon Barba.
